🏚️When “Homeownership” Becomes a Trap
What happens when the people you trust to manage your community aren’t protecting homeowners, but quietly dismantling everything meant to keep us safe?
In my condo complex, I’ve seen it up close.
No real Board elections. Meetings “on paper” but never accessible to owners.
Expired corporate filings. An Association that legally doesn’t exist — but still cashes checks.
Utility games. WiFi cut off, HVAC blowing toxins or heat in the middle of summer, water intrusion ignored until mold spreads.
Fraudulent foreclosures. Trustee sales carried out under a façade of legitimacy, stripping families of equity in the homes they fought for.
And here’s the part that should worry every homeowner in California: this isn’t just one complex. This is a model. A system. A playbook being tested and repeated. Owners lose their homes, investors pocket the profit, and management companies walk away with more power than ever.
This is more than mismanagement. It’s a machine designed to create evictions, destroy lives, and re-rent properties at a premium — while hiding behind the word “HOA.”
Homeownership is supposed to mean stability, safety, and equity. But when the very structures meant to protect owners are corrupted, the dream becomes a trap.
